A promiseBQP-complete string rewriting problem

چکیده
We consider the following combinatorial problem. We are given three strings s, t, and t of length L over some fixed finite alphabet and an integer m that is polylogarithmic in L. We have a symmetric relation on substrings of constant length that specifies which substrings are allowed to be replaced with each other. Let ∆(n) denote the difference between the numbers of possibilities to obtain t from s and t from s after n ∈ N replacements. The problem is to determine the sign of ∆(m). As promises we have a gap condition and a growth condition. The former states that |∆(m)| ≥ ǫ cm where ǫ is inverse polylogarithmic in L and c > 0 is a constant. The latter is given by ∆(n) ≤ cn for all n. We show that this problem is PromiseBQP-complete, i.e., it represents the class of problems which can be solved efficiently on a quantum computer.

A Simple PromiseBQP-complete Matrix Problem
Let A be a real symmetric matrix of size N such that the number of non-zero entries in each row is polylogarithmic in N and the positions and the values of these entries are specified by an efficiently computable function. We consider the problem of estimating an arbitrary diagonal entry (Am) j j of the matrix Am up to an error of ε bm, where b is an a priori given upper bound on the norm of A ...
متن کاملLynch-Morawska Systems on Strings
We investigate properties of convergent and forward-closed string rewriting systems in the context of the syntactic criteria introduced in [8] by Christopher Lynch and Barbara Morawska (we call these LM-Systems). Since a string rewriting system can be viewed as a term-rewriting system over a signature of purely monadic function symbols, we adapt their definition to the string rewriting case. We...
متن کاملOn complete one-way functions
Complete constructions play an important role in theoretical computer science. However, in cryptography complete constructions have so far been either absent or purely theoretical. In 2003, L.A. Levin presented the idea of a combinatorial complete one-way function. In this paper, we present two new one-way functions based on semi-Thue string rewriting systems and a version of the Post correspon...
متن کاملTransforming Cycle Rewriting into String Rewriting
We present new techniques to prove termination of cycle rewriting, that is, string rewriting on cycles, which are strings in which the start and end are connected. Our main technique is to transform cycle rewriting into string rewriting and then apply state of the art techniques to prove termination of the string rewrite system. We present three such transformations, and prove for all of them t...
متن کاملNew Combinatorial Complete One-Way Functions
In 2003, Leonid A. Levin presented the idea of a combinatorial complete one-way function and a sketch of the proof that Tiling represents such a function. In this paper, we present two new one-way functions based on semi-Thue string rewriting systems and a version of the Post Correspondence Problem and prove their completeness. Besides, we present an alternative proof of Levin’s result. We also...
